Antico

The Antico is the most elegant and premium ukulele in the Antica Ukuleleria line. Inspired by violin-making, it features a lightweight spruce top, maple body, and a old-style finish made with shellac and other natural resins. Its construction is light to let the sound breathe—bright, rich, and full of character. Every detail is carefully crafted to offer a unique blend of traditional style and modern playability.

I source my spruce from the renowned Val di Fiemme valley, famous for providing the same high-quality wood that Stradivari used for his legendary instruments. The unique climate and centuries-old traditions of this region give the wood distinctive tonal properties.

Over time, I’ve come to understand its unique qualities and how to bring out the best in its sound. This exceptional wood helps create instruments with a warm, resonant tone that I continue to refine with each build.

For my finest instruments, I use carefully selected figured maple from the Balkan region—a tonewood prized for its acoustic properties and striking visual appeal. This high-grade maple is known for its tight grain and natural flame pattern, which comes to life under layers of hand-applied shellac finish.

When brushed with traditional shellac and natural resins, the maple’s figure gains depth and warmth, creating a three-dimensional effect. Please note that shellac is a particularly delicate finish, so it will need to be handled with love and care. On request I can also add a pickguard to protect the finish.
